BSNC
is one of the primary landholders in the Bering Straits/Seward Peninsula/Norton
Sound region. For centuries the land has provided a livelihood for
the residents of the region and subsistence continues to be a central
activity in the lives of our shareholders.
Long known for
its mineral potential this region has been successfully mined in
the past and continues to offer development and mining opportunities.
BSNC strives to enhance the economic opportunities in the Bering
Straits region, while managing its lands for the future use and
benefit to BSNC shareholders and their descendants.
BSNC’s
land entitlement under ANCSA accounts for more than 2.1 million
acres of surface and subsurface estate located throughout the region.
In most cases, BSNC owns the subsurface estate underlying the surface
estate owned by the village corporations. In other areas of the
region, BSNC owns the surface and subsurface estate to large tracts
selected because of the natural resources located there, as well
as smaller tracts selected as historic and cemetery sites. Regional
Land Status
BSNC looks forward to a successful future in mineral exploration
and development on these lands. For the past 30 years BSNC has focused
on mineral exploration and mine development, and will continue to
pursue ventures and partnerships that benefit the region and our
shareholders. We also encourage investment in tourism on Native
and public lands and the development of local infrastructure which
will enhance the economic health of the region.
